A warm welcome to potential new members!

Design—Research—Making (DRM) suggests the following: Rather than being and acting descriptive of what we are or may identify with (Design PhD researchers, or academics etc.), this space places emphasis on the subject of thought — the interstices, the possible configurations, complexities, and contradictions we can collectively pull out by exploring the three terms Design — Research — Making (and beyond, of course). This includes, of course, the aspect of "making" — for most design researchers the point of departure into a design PhD.

Being a designer and researcher myself (currently in the process of completing a practice-based PhD at the Royal College of Art in London), I wanted to create a participatory, interactive and open space for international and cross-institutional exchange. The current members use the forum space to share their research to obtain feedback and suggestions — others use it to share job adverts and call for papers. It is up to the members how and to what extent they want to use this space for.

A "Code of Conduct" has been added in an effort to improve the online interaction between design researchers. This is not to censor anyone, but to avoid repetition and misunderstanding. Since the platform is in itself a process in the making, your ideas and thoughts on how to improve this platform are more than welcome.

Our members appreciate transparency in the communication, so, in order for you to participate and access the content, you have to create a profile with your full, real-world name and an institutional address (please refer to the Code of Conduct for the real name policy. Fake profiles will be deleted/ not activated).

I'm looking forward to your contribution and the exchanges in this growing design research community!

Best wishes,

Veronica Ranner
